The second workshop in a tri-series of workshops for the Project’s Monitoring and Evaluation system, took place from September 8th- to the 10th. in Limbe.  In attendance were the Project’s Basin Supervisors and field staff in addition to members of the Project management Unit.

The objective of the three day workshop was to ensure that stakeholders master and appropriate the M&E system of the Project. Other objectives included strengthening participant’s knowledge and understanding of the results -based monitoring and evaluation system and its components.

In his opening statement the Project Coordinator, Dr. Besong Ntui Ogork stated that having this Monitoring and Evaluation System would be a chance for the Project to share its own story and allow the Project ‘to track what had been planned as result of the Project.’ The Consultant corroborated these sentiments by acknowledging that the M&E system would aid in measuring the change the Project aims to promote through various activities.

The workshop, which contained a combination of plenary presentations, group work and brainstorming sessions, consisted of topics such as defining pertinent M&E vocabulary, Assessment of the Logical Framework, Theory of Change, Understanding the M&E System and the traditional role which it plays in projects.

Those in attendance were also exposed to various M& E tools and methods in what would later be known as an M&E toolbox. Participants were invited to add outstanding prospective tools that could aid in monitoring and evaluation in the Project M&E such as focus group discussions for community engagement. In efforts to apply practicality to theoretical presentations, attendees would be divided into groups to determine potential difficulties faced in the M&E system for various components in relation to Data collection, Data Organization, Data Analysis and the use of M&E results, to which they were then required to propose safeguards. Concluding this interactive session, participants were invited to present their findings in order to receive inputs from others.

The final workshop, which is to be a held in the upcoming months, will act as a continuation of the M&E system and will contain an array of exercises to better understand the topic at hand. The forthcoming workshop will focus on digitalisation aspects of M&E system as well as data collection.
